Russia can consider cutting duty on sugar imported under quota

MOSCOW, Oct 21 (PRIME) – Russia, whose harvest of beetroot plummeted by 31.4% on the year as of October 1, can consider introducing a lower import duty on sugar imported under a quota, the Agriculture Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

"After finishing beetroot harvesting, the Russian Agriculture Ministry is considering application of additional regulative measures," the ministry said.

“A sugar import quota, under which a low import duty will be applied to ensure not only the country’s demand for sugar, but also to stabilize prices on the internal market.”
